Rochester Red Wings News Release

Rochester Red Wings (59-59)

THAT WAS DISAPPOINTING: The Red Wings lost their 3rd game in a row to fall back to .500 at 59-59.

I JINXED IT: The Red Wings lost for the first time in 47 games when leading after 8 innings, blowing a 3-2 lead in the 9th...only Buffalo (Mets) in the International League is unbeaten when leading after 8 innings, going 47-0 in such games.

UNFAMILIAR GROUND: The Red Wings have lost a season-high 5 in a row at Frontier Field for the 2nd time...they also lost 5 straight along Morrie Silver Way April 25-May 2.

RAINING ON THE HIT PARADE: The Red Wings have just 13 hits in their last 4 games at Frontier Field.

FAST CARSON AND FREEDOM: Matt Carson hit a 2-run homer in the first inning, his 12th of the season to tie Chris Parmelee for the team lead.

HAPPY CLETE: Clete Thomas's solo homer in the 8th inning was his first extra-base hit in 13 games (12 starts).

MY FAVORITE MARTIS: Shairon Martis has worked 6.0 innings or more in each of his last 4 starts, including 7.0 innings in both of his last 2 outings...he logged his 3rd "quality start" in 5 tries since joining the Red Wings.

RAISING THE ESCOBAR: Eduardo Escobar snapped an 0-for-10 drought with his first-inning single.

GENE IN A BOTTLE: Gene Glynn on Thursday will manage his 500th career game.

THEY GOT OUR NUMBER: By losing their 8th game to Empire State, the Red Wings will remain winless in season series against the Yankees for the 5th year in a row...the Wings last won a season series against the Yankees in 2007, when they went 11-5.

Empire State Yankees (65-52)

WHY WASTE TIME?: Chris Dickerson hit his 4th first-inning leadoff home run of the season...all 4 have come beginning July 17 and they account for all of Empire State's first-inning leadoff homers this year.

IF I COULD BE LIKE MIKE: Mike O'Connor worked a season-high 6.1 innings, his longest outing since a 9-inning shutout August 6, 2008 with Columbus (Nationals) vs. Norfolk (Orioles)...he also posted a season-best 7 strikeouts, his most since fanning 10 April 14, 2008 with Columbus at Charlotte (White Sox).

NO, REALLY: Mike O'Connor retired 18 in a row after allowing Matt Carson's first-inning homer...Chris Parmelee's one-out single in the 7th ended the stretch.
