Peoria Chiefs News Release
Beloit, WI - The Chiefs recorded their first-ever victory at ABC Supply Stadium with a 4-2 triumph over the Beloit Snappers Wednesday night. It also snapped the team's five-game losing streak against Beloit dating back to July 29.
Masyn Winn got the game started with a lead-off home run to put Peoria out in front 1-0. It was Winn's second homer in a Chiefs uniform and the team's first since August 14. Troy Johnston evened the score with a solo homer of his own in the next inning.
Peoria tacked on a run in the third inning to retake a 2-1 lead. With Tommy Jew and Masyn Winn on the corners with one out, Jordan Walker's RBI groundout scored Jew from third base.
In the fourth inning, the Chiefs loaded the bases with no one out and created some separation by scoring a pair of runs without the benefit of a hit. With the pillows full of Chiefs, Aaron Antonini was hit by a pitch to collect a hard-earned RBI. Later, Francisco Hernandez brought in a run with a groundout.
Peoria starter Michael YaSenka was solid in 5.1 innings of work tonight and picked up his first win of the season. From there, the bullpen took over and did not allow a run over the final 3.2 innings of work.
Trailing 4-2 entering the bottom of the ninth, the first two Beloit hitters reached base against Paul Schwendel. The right-hander promptly dispatched the next three hitters, recording three strikeouts in the process, to collect his fourth save in a Chiefs uniform.
The series continues tomorrow from Beloit. Logan Gragg will start on the mound for the Chiefs.
