Spokane Chiefs News Release

The Spokane Chiefs dropped just their second game of the pre-season with a 4-2 loss at the hands of the Tri-City Americans on Saturday night in Kennewick. Spokane finished the seven game exhibition season at 5-2. The Chiefs will take Sunday off before gearing up through the week for the regular season opener on Saturday, September 23rd in Cranbrook, BC versus the Kootenay Ice.

Ondrej Roman scored for the second time in as many nights to stake the Chiefs to 1-0 lead at 6:33 of the first period. Drayson Bowman and Dan Mercer assisted on the play.

Spokane took a 2-0 lead with a Seth Compton goal at 4:25 of the second, but his goal was bettered by three from Tri-City as the Americans took a 3-2 lead after 40-minutes. Tri-City's Michael Kaye, Alex Aldred and Joel Broda scored at 7:34, 9:51 and 11:59, respectively. Aldred's was on the power play, the only goal scored by a specialty team a night after Spokane and Tri-City combined to tally five on the man advantage in the Chiefs 4-1 win at Eagles Ice-A-Rena.

Despite outshooting Tri- City 12-4 in the third period, and 26-18 for the night, the Chiefs couldn't push the equalizer past Chet Pickard, who went the distance for the Americans. Tri-City added a goal with 21-seconds remaining while Spokane's starter, Kevin Armstrong, was on the bench for the 4-2 final.

The Chiefs will take on the Americans on Saturday, October 1st in Kennewick for Tri-City's home opener and one of four road games to begin the season for Spokane. After traveling to Cranbrook next weekend, the Chiefs will make a trip to Vancouver on September 26th, Tri- City on the 1st and Everett on October 6th. The regular season home schedule will begin for Spokane on Saturday, October 7th versus Tri-City, just one of 12 meetings on the season between the two.

Tickets are available for all home games by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
