T-Birds fall to Tips in preseason finale

Kent, WA. September 16, 2006 - Seattle Thunderbirds captain Aaron Gagnon scored five goals Saturday night, but it wasn't enough as the T-Birds fell to the Everett Silvertips, 6-5, at Kent Valley Ice Centre.

This was the last preseason game for Seattle before the season opener on Friday, September 22. Seattle had a 2-4 record in preseason.

The T-Birds open the season with back-to-back games in Prince George against the Cougars. They play on Friday, September 22, and Saturday, September 23, at 7:05 p.m. The home opener is Saturday, September 30, against the Vancouver Giants at 7:05 p.m. at KeyArena.

Everett took a 1-0 lead at 11:11 of the first period on a power-play goal by Zach Hamill. Brandon Campos and Cody Thoring had the assists. The goal was scored on a 5-on-3 power play.

Graham Potuer gave the Tips a 2-0 lead with a power-play goal at 12:39 the first. Zack Dailey and Shane Harper had the assists.

Potuer scored an unassisted short-handed goal at 19:45 of the first to make it a 3-0 Everett lead.

Everett outshot Seattle 13-9 in the first period.

Brady Calla gave the Silvertips a 4-0 lead with shorthanded goal at 4:13 of the second period. Hamill had the only assist on the goal.

Aaron Gagnon put the T-Birds on the board when he scored a power-play goal at 18:32 of the second period. Sena Acolatse and Greg Scott had the assists.

Seattle outshot Everett 11-8 in the second period but Everett led in total shots, 21-20, going into the second intermission.

Everett took a 5-1 lead on a goal by Kyle Beach at 3:52 of the third period. Jesse Smyke had the only assist.

Eric Doyle scored an unassisted goal at 6:08 of the third to give Everett a 6-1 lead.

Gagnon scored his second goal of the night unassisted at 6:21 of the third to cut the Everett lead to four goals.

Gagnon scored a power-play goal at 12:45 of the third on assists from Acolatse and Thomas Hickey.

Gagnon struck again on the power play at 14:27 of the third. Hickey and Scott had the assists on his fourth goal of the night.

Gagnon scored a third power-play goal and his fifth goal of the night at 16:48 of the third. Scott and Kyle Pess had the assists. .

Seattle outshot Everett 21-6 in the third period and finished with a 41-27 advantage in shots.
