Kennewick, WA - The Tri-City Americans rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat the archrival Spokane Chiefs 4-2 tonight before 1,256 fans at Toyota Center in WHL pre-season play.
Spokane would take a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes when Ondrej Roman would tally on a Dan Mercer set up at 6:33. The lead would grow to 2-0 as the Chiefs Seth Compton would slip a shot past Americans goalie Chet Pickard at 4:25 of the second.
The Americans would begin the comeback as newly acquired Michael Kaye would shelf a snap shot over the shoulder of Spokane netminder Kevin Armstrong at 7:34 of the second to half the lead to 2-1. Alex Aldred would knot the tilt at 2-all with help from Kaye and Joel Broda on the power play at 9:51. Broda just over two minutes later at 11:59 would provide the game-winner with a snap shot in the slot.
The Americans would seal the deal with an empty net tally by Colton Yellow Horn at 19:39 of the third after Aldred stripped a Spokane defender at the blue line.
Spokane out shot the Americans 26-18 on the evening.
The Americans are 2-2-0-1 on the pre-season and wrap up exhibition play tomorrow afternoon at Toyota Center at 3:05 pm against the Portland Winter Hawks. Tickets are on a general admission basis and just $9 for adults, $6 for youth (3-17).
