Davenport, IA - The Peoria Chiefs scored four times in the first inning but fell to the Swing of the Quad Cities 8-5 Saturday night at John O'Donnell Stadium. The loss, their third straight, knocks the Chiefs one half game behind Quad Cities in the standings at 12-10 on the half.

Both teams put runs on the board in the first inning as the Chiefs jumped all over Swing starter Shaun Garceau. Ryne Malone led off with a single up the middle and scored when Jim Adduci doubled off the centerfield wall. Josh Lansford sacrificed Adduci to third and the Chiefs took a 2-0 lead when Garceau dropped the ball at the plate allowing Adduci to score from third. With Derek Schermerhorn at second, Blake Lalli singled to center for his 17th RBI of the season. Lalli advanced to second on the throw home and scored moments later on a Brian Leclerc single for a 4-0 Chiefs lead. Nate Samson followed with an infield single but Leclerc was caught in a rundown between third and home and tagged out to end the inning.

Quad Cities leadoff man Daryl Jones singled off Chiefs starter Jake Renshaw and stole second in the bottom of the first. With one out, Tony Cruz singled to left as Jones scored to cut the lead to 4-1.

The Chiefs lead evaporated in the third as the Swing played home run derby for the second night in a row. With one out, Jared Schweitzer golfed an ankle high pitch over the left field wall for a solo shot, his ninth of the season. Tony Cruz followed with a long homer that one-hopped the scoreboard in left-center to cut the Chiefs lead to 4-3. Steven Hill singled to center and moved to second on a wild pitch. After a groundout, Hill tied the game when he scored on another wild pitch. Nick Derba reached on an infield single and Renshaw hit Tim Dorn with a pitch. Jose Ramirez gave Quad Cities their first lead of the game with a single to left for a 5-4 advantage before Renshaw got out of the inning.

The Swing extended their lead against reliever Michael Bartek in the fourth. Jones led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch for a 6-4 Swing lead. Bartek walked Schweitzer and with one out, Cruz doubled to left-center. Christian Reyes put the Swing up 8-4 with a 2-run single before Bartek got back to back outs to end the inning.

Peoria took advantage of another Swing error to get one run back in the seventh. With two outs, Samson hit a grounder to shortstop but first baseman Tim Dorn dropped the throw allowing Samson to reach second. Matt Camp drew a walk and Jonathon Mota singled Samson home to cut the lead to 8-5.

Renshaw allowed five runs on eight hits over a season low three innings of work. He struck out one, hit one and walked one while allowing his first two road home runs of the season. Bartek allowed three runs on five hits and a walk in three innings of work while striking out three. Matt Maradeo allowed one hit in his one scoreless inning of work. Alex Maestri retired the Swing in order in his lone inning of work.

Gorman's Pub Player of the Game Ryne Malone & Jonathon Mota (2B) - The two Chiefs second baseman combined to go 3-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI. Malone started the game with a single and scored in the first. He singled in the second and left the game in the fifth. Mota drove home a run in the 7th in his only at-bat.
