Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

LANSING, MI -- Scott Campbell's two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning provided the Lansing Lugnuts with the winning margin on Saturday night. Lansing edged the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 4-3 at Oldsmobile Park. Campbell had a pair of hits and three RBI on the night. Wisconsin had leads of 1-0, 2-1, and 3-2, but could not hang on and wound up with their seventh consecutive loss.

Reed Eastley started the Rattler second inning with a double. Leury Bonilla bunted Eastley over to third. Then, Jamie McOwen singled back through the middle to knock in Eastley for the first Rattler lead of the night.

Lansing (48-43 overall, 13-9 second half) came right back with an unearned run in the bottom of the second. Josh Bell reached on an error to start the inning. He was at third base with two outs, when Campbell doubled into the right field corner to drive him in with the tying run.

Wisconsin (30-59, 8-13) broke back in front with a run in the top of the fifth. Ron Garth doubled to start the inning. Juan Diaz followed with a single to put runners at the corners. Alex Liddi was next and he sent a grounder back to the mound. Lansing pitcher Kyle Ginley looked Garth back to third, then went to second for the force on Diaz. As soon as Ginley threw to second, Garth broke for the plate. He beat the throw home from Lansing shortstop Jonathan Diaz to score the go ahead run.

Nathan Adcock, who was activated off the bereavement list before Saturday's game, allowed the one unearned run in five innings and left after reaching his pitch limit with a chance to pick up the victory. Adcock struck out four and worked around four walks. But, the Rattler starting pitcher would get a no decision on the night.

Wisconsin hand an opportunity to add to their lead in the top of the seventh. The Rattlers loaded the bases with one out, but could not score.

The Lugnuts tied the game in the bottom of the seventh. Sean Shoffit drew a leadoff walk against Kyle Parker and would steal second to get into scoring position. Jonathan Baksh singled to center and drove in Shoffit to tie the game 2-2.

The Rattlers went back in front in the top of the eighth. Jair Fernandez doubled to left to drive in Leury Bonilla to give Wisconsin a 3-2 lead.

But, the lead would not last. Parker walked Jonathan Diaz with one out in the bottom of the eighth. Campbell was next and he lifted a home run to right field for a 4-3.

Edward Rodriguez entered the game for the Lugnuts in the top of the ninth inning and struck out the first two batters he faced. Then, Lansing sent lefty Ron Lowe into the game to face left-handed hitting Carlos Peguero. The Rattler designated hitter foiled the strategy with a single to center to keep the game alive. But, Lowe picked up the save by getting Eastley to ground out to third to end the game.

The Rattlers wrap up the Lansing leg of their road trip on Sunday afternoon. Anthony Varvaro (4-7, 4.97) is the scheduled starter for the Rattlers. Tony Butler is scheduled come off the disabled list to pitch in relief for Wisconsin on Sunday. Lansing will counter with Ray Gonzalez (4-3, 3.83). Game time is 2:05pm EDT/1:05pm CDT.
