Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Nine-year major league veteran Wade Miller will pitch against the Swing of the Quad Cities on Sunday, as the Chicago Cubs announced on Saturday that the former Quad City River Bandit will throw 40-50 pitches in a rehab start with the Peoria Chiefs.
The ballgame is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start at Peoria's O'Brien Field, as the Swing and Chiefs finish out a four-game series on Sunday afternoon.
Miller, who is 62-46 with a 4.10 ERA over 151 career appearances (147 starts) in the major leagues, opened the year in the Chicago Cubs starting rotation. After posting a 10.54 ERA and an 0-1 record through three starts, he was placed on the Disabled List with back spasms on April 23. He made three rehab starts at the Double-A and Triple-A levels in late May before eventually being shut down, and the Cubs transferred him from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL on June 26.
This marks the second season in a row in which the Swing will face Miller, who made five rehab starts with the Chiefs in 2006. The first of those contests was against Quad Cities on June 22, when the 30-year-old from Reading, Pennsylvania tossed three shutout innings while fanning three and allowing three hits.
After being selected by the Houston Astros in the 20th round of the 1996 draft out of Alvernia College, Miller spent four seasons in the minors before making his big-league debut in 1999. That included a stint with the Quad City River Bandits in 1997, when Miller went 5-3 with a 3.36 ERA and two complete games in 10 appearances (eight starts).
