Chiefs Expect 82 Players at Tournament-Style Training Camp
August 22, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release
The Spokane Chiefs will hold their annual training camp at Spokane Arena with ice sessions beginning on Thursday, September 1 and running through Sunday, September 4. The camp will feature 82 players, ranging in ages from 15-20, split into four teams. Further details, including team names and rosters, will be released in the coming days.
The event marks the first time the 2021 and 2022 draft classes will have the chance to participate in a Chiefs' training camp, including 2021 first overall selection Berkly Catton and 2022 first round pick (8th overall) Chase Harrington.
Practice sessions will take place during the day followed by two games each night. The camp will follow a tournament style, culminating in a Red-White Championship game for the Chiefs Cup on Sunday at 10:30 a.m versus the top two teams from camp.
Three of the four days of camp will take place at the Spokane Arena with the Friday, September 2 sessions moving out to the University Rec Center Ice Arena on the campus of Eastern Washington University in Cheney due to a scheduling conflict with the Greta Van Fleet concert in the Spokane Arena. Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday's sessions will take place in the Spokane Arena.
All games will be free and open to the public. Guests are asked to enter the building at the southeast corner of the Spokane Arena.
After camp, the team will trim the roster to begin their WHL preseason schedule as they prep to open the regular season on September 23 at Victoria.
