Dayton Dragons News Release
Peoria, Ill.-Peoria's Ronald Castillo blooped a two-out single to center field in the sixth inning to bring in the only run of the game as the Chiefs defeated the Dayton Dragons 1-0 on Tuesday night. The loss dropped the Dragons to 2-3 on the season while Peoria improved to 3-2.
Peoria starting pitcher Nick Petree and three relievers combined to limit the Dragons to five hits. Despite the low-hit total, the Dragons had several good chances to score. But Dayton batters combined to go 1 for 16 with men on base and 0 for 12 with runners in scoring position on the night.
Dragons starting pitcher Junior Morillo worked five and one-third innings and pitched extremely well but was charged with the hard-luck loss. Morillo actually left the game with the score 0-0 and the bases empty, but he was forced to depart due to elbow soreness in the middle of an at-bat and the count at 3-2. When Dragons reliever Daniel Wright replaced Morillo and issued ball four to the hitter, the walk was officially charged to Morillo. When that runner eventually scored, the only run of the game went against Morillo's record. Morillo allowed four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
The Dragons best chances to score came in the third and fifth innings, when they advanced runners to third with less than two outs. In two other innings, the Dragons had a runner at second with no one out. In the ninth, they saw one final chance to get in the run column. Tanner Rahier reached on an infield single with one out and after Sammy Diaz flied out to left, Carlton Daal delivered a two-out single to center to move Rahier to second. But Beau Amaral grounded out to the pitcher to end the game.
Rahier and Daal each collected two hits for Dayton. Sebastian Elizalde had a double to account for the other Dayton hit.
The Dragons battle the Chiefs in Peoria again on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. (EDT). Nick Travieso (0-0, 3.00) will make his second start of the year for the Dragons against Peoria's Arturo Reyes (1-0, 9.00). All Dragons games can be heard on WONE Radio (980 AM) and via the internet at wone.com and through the Dragons Mobile App. The Dragons return home on Monday, April 14 when they host the Clinton Lumber Kings in the start of a three-game series.
