
Captains Win Fourth Straight

Lake County Captains News Release
(Clinton, IA)- Cody Ferrell smacked his second homerun of the season in the top of the sixth inning as the Captains went on to beat the Clinton LumberKings 6-5. The Ferrell homer was a two-run shot and at the moment put the Captains up 6-1. Lake County held on for their second straight one run victory and their fourth straight win overall.
Lake County scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Dorssys Paulino led off the ballgame with an infield single. Claudio Bautista quickly tripled him home and it was 1-0 Captains. Eric Haase then ripped a double down the right field line, scoring Bautista, and the score was 2-0. Haase came home to score on a two strike single by Grant Fink. The lead was 3-0 Captains after a half inning.
Lake County added to the lead in the top of the third inning. Fink walked and raced to third on a double by Anthony Santander. Jorge Martinez then drove a fly ball to deep left center field, which scored Fink from third and it was 4-0 Captains.
Clinton cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning. Marcus Littlewood singled, moved to second on a sac bunt. Littlewood went to third on a single by Austin Wilson and then Littlewood crossed home plate on a base hit by Tyler O'Neil. The score was 4-1 Captains.
Clinton struck for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, Marcus Littlewood singled and started the rally for Clinton. Two batters later Austin Wilson doubled home two and the lead was trimmed to 6-3. The lead was cut two one run after another two-run double by Jeff Zimmerman later in the same inning. After seven innings the score was 6-5 Lake County. That was the final score.
RHP Mitch Brown (0-0) got the start for Lake County and did not qualify for the win. Brown twirled four and two thirds innings and allowed one earned run. Brown allowed six hits, two walks and a hit batter. Brown set two hitters down on strikes. Alexis Parades (1-0) pitched one third of an inning and allowed one hit. Parades earned the win. Matt Whitehouse pitched three innings and allowed five hits and four earned runs. Whitehouse also struck out five. Trevor Frank pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn his second save on the season.
The LumberKings RHP Tommy Burns (0-1) started and took the loss. Burns just lasted one third of an inning. Burns allowed five hits, one walk and three earned runs. Lars Huijer relieved Burns and pitched three and one third inning in relief. Huijer allowed one earned run on one hit, and three walks. He also struck out two. Ramire Cleto pitched three and one third inning allowing two runs, one was earned on one hit, one walk and three strikeouts. Mark Bordonaro pitched the final two innings for Clinton and didn't allow a run.
The Captains will stay in Clinton, Iowa on Wednesday to take on the LumberKings in game two of a three game series. LHP Luis Lugo (0-0, 0.00) will start for the Captains and the LumberKings will counter with RHP Edwin Diaz (0-0, 3.86). First Pitch is at 7:30 PM from Ashford University Field.
