Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Peoria Chiefs (affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals) in the first game of a three-game series and the start to a six-game road trip for Dayton.
Last Game: On Sunday: West Michigan 5, Dragons 1. The Whitecaps earned a split of the four-game series.
Today's Dragons Starting Pitcher: Junior Morillo makes his first start of the season tonight. Morillo split last season between the AZL Reds (2-1, 1.65 in six starts) and Billings (2-3, 4.50 in seven starts).
Individual Notes
* The Dragons roster includes the last two Reds #1 draft picks. Nick Travieso was the Reds top pick in 2012 and Phillip Ervin was a first round selection in 2013. Jeff Gelalich was a supplemental first round pick in 2012. Tanner Rahier was a second round pick in 2012.
* Fourteen (14) members of the Dragons return from last season's club and another from 2012. From 2013, they include OF Beau Amaral, LHP Joel Bender, RHP Alejandro Chacin, C Brandon Dailey, RHP Pedro Diaz, INF Sammy Diaz, OF Phillip Ervin, LHP Amir Garrett, OF Jeff Gelalich, LHP Ismael Guillon, C Joe Hudson, 3B Tanner Rahier, RHP Sal Romano, and RHP Nick Travieso. 1B/DH Sean Buckley returns from the 2012 Dragons.
Team Notes
* The Dragons lead the league in team pitching with an ERA of 2.25. Ironically, the Dragons have allowed 17 runs, tied for second most in the league, but eight of them have been unearned as a result of eight Dayton errors. Dragons relievers have allowed only two earned runs.
* The Dragons are tied for second in the league in runs scored despite ranking next to last (15th) in team batting at .211. Dragons batters are tied for second in the league in walks with 17. They are first in sacrifice flies (5).
* Dragons pitchers have walked just 10 batters in four games only one pitcher has walked more than one.
