The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Pawtucket Red Sox, 9-3, Monday night in the final game of the year at NBT Bank Stadium. Matt Skole hit a two-run home run in the loss. Ryan LaMarre went 3 for 4 with three runs and an RBI.

Pawtucket (71-64) opened the scoring in the top of the first against Syracuse's starter Taylor Hill. With one out, Ryan LaMarre hit an infield single to second base. LaMarre then stole second. The steal was LaMarre's 16th on the year. Christian Vasquez followed with a single to left field, advancing LaMarre to third. In the ensuing at-bat, Chris Marrero hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring LaMarre to give Pawtucket a 1-0 lead.

The PawSox scored again in the fourth. With two outs, Chris Dominguez hit an infield single to shortstop. Deven Marrero followed with a base hit to left field, putting runners on first and third. Mike Miller hit a third consecutive single in the next at-bat, this time to center field to score Dominguez and put the PawSox up 2-0.

Pawtucket crossed the plate twice more in the fifth. The first two batters of the inning, LaMarre and Vasquez, were hit by pitches. Chris Marrero followed with a line-drive single to left field, scoring LaMarre, while moving Vasquez to third. With no outs, Bryce Brentz then grounded into a double play, scoring Vasquez to give the PawSox a 4-0 advantage.

Syracuse (59-77) rallied in the bottom of the seventh. Matt Skole opened the inning with a double down the right-field line against Pawtucket's starter Sean O'Sullivan. Following a pop out, Matt den Dekker walked and Jason Martinson singled to left field, loading the bases. The single brought an end to the night for O'Sullivan, who finished after throwing six and one-third innings, striking out five without allowing a run. Southpaw Robby Scott entered in relief for the PawSox. With the bases loaded and one out, Scott struck out Zach Collier and forced Christopher Bostick to line out to left field, ending the threat.

Billy Gardner's bunch got on the board for the first time in the eighth inning. With one out, Brian Goodwin worked a walk against Scott and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Neftali Soto followed with a single to right field, scoring Goodwin. In the ensuing at-bat, Skole hit a two-run home run to right-center field, cutting the lead to 4-3. Scott exited after the home run in favor of Noe Ramirez, who completed the inning unscathed.

The PawSox answered back in the ninth against Chiefs closer Rafael Martin. Pawtucket scored five runs on six hits to take a 9-3 lead. Pawtucket batted around in the inning. Ramirez then pitched a scoreless ninth inning, sealing the win for the PawSox.

Syracuse returns to action again Tuesday evening for the first of an abbreviated two-game series in Rochester. Paolo Espino is scheduled to pitch for the Chiefs against David Hurlbut for the Red Wings. Time of the game is set for 7:05 p.m.
