Peoria Chiefs News Release
Peoria, IL - Despite a solid start by Scott Taylor, the Peoria Chiefs dropped another one-run game to the Burlington Bees, this time 2-1 in front of a crowd of 6,004 Friday night at O'Brien Field. The Chiefs managed seven hits on the night but only managed one run as they fell to the Bees for the second time in as many days.
With the game still tied 1-1 in the top of ninth and Taylor still on the mound, the Bees scored what turned out to be the winning run. Jose Duarte doubled into the left-centerfield gap to start the frame and advanced to third on a Josh Johnson sacrifice bunt. Carlos Arroyo gave Burlington the lead when he lined a base hit past Robinson Chirinos to plate Duarte.
Burlington powered their way to a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. With one away and the bases empty, Mario Lisson connected on his sixth homer of the year, a towering fly ball down the left field line.
The Chiefs finally tallied their first run coming in the sixth. Jesus Valdez and Ryan Norwood singled back-to-back. Two outs later, Alberto Garcia delivered a game-tying RBI single when he hit a liner to right to score Valdez and knot the game at one.
Taylor pitched 8 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on five hits in a losing effort. Matt Avery came on for him to record the final two outs of the inning, both via the strikeout. Chris Nicoll started for the Bees and tossed six innings while surrending one run coming in his last inning of work. The righty struck out nine. Cody Harkcom earned the win, and Gilbert De La Vara picked up the save for the Bees.
