Peoria Chiefs News Release

Peoria, IL - For the second straight day, the Chiefs shutout the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, as they blanked Wisconsin 4-0 on Thursday. The Chiefs have not allowed a run to the T-Rats in the last 23 innings of play dating back to Tuesday.

Wisconsin starter Brandon Knarr entered Thursday's game the winner of seven straight decisions and the owner of a 1.58 earned run average. The left-hander lived up to his billing as he held the Chiefs scoreless through five.

Dionys Rodriguez took the ball for Peoria and he was up to the task on Thursday. The 21-year-old answered with five shutout innings of his own and held Wisconsin to just five hits.

In the sixth, the Chiefs broke through. After a Todd Lott double, LJ Jones bunted him over to third base. Then, an Aaron Antonini sac fly brought Lott to the plate and Peoria jumped out to a 1-0 lead.

Levi Prater was the first arm out of the Peoria bullpen in the bottom of the sixth and he picked up right where Rodriguez left off. Prater retired the first six men that he faced with three outs recorded via strikeout.

With the score still 1-0 in the eighth, Jacob Buchberger tacked on his team-leading 24th RBI of the season. With runners on the corners, Buchberger chopped one towards second base where Jadher Areinamo was unable to make a play on what was ruled as an infield hit. Lott, who reached base three times in the game, scored his second run to make it 2-0 Chiefs.

In the bottom of the eighth, Wisconsin put the go-ahead run on base after a pair of walks and single loaded the bases with no one out. After some early trouble, Prater whiffed Joe Gray Jr. and Tristan Peters to record back-to-back outs and keep the Timber Rattlers off the board. Prater was then lifted for Andre Granillo, who made his second appearance in a Chiefs uniform. Granillo got Ethan Murray to fly out to left to keep Wisconsin off the board in the eighth.

After the bases loaded escape, Peoria tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the ninth. After Mike Antico extended his on-base streak to 17 games with a walk, Lott reached base again, also via a free pass. With runners at first at second, Jones doubled off the left field wall to plate both men and push the lead to 4-0.

Granillo allowed a two-out hit in the ninth but recorded a zero to secure the shutout. Rodriguez picked up his first win of 2022, while the Chiefs blanked Wisconsin for the third time this season.

Austin Love will start for Peoria on Friday. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m.
