Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Lansing, MI - Five Cedar Rapids Kernels recorded multi-hit games in a roller coaster 8-5 win over Lansing on Friday evening. Aaron Sabato had three hits while Anthony Prato, Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Wander Javier and Charles Mack each had two knocks in the win. The Kernels are now 31-18, still one game up on Wisconsin in the West Division standings.
Cedar Rapids' offensive outburst came in support of a strong start from David Festa, who earned his third win in as many appearances for the Kernels with 5.0 frames of two-run ball. Festa scattered five hits and a pair of walks, striking out five while recording 17 whiffs on 93 pitches. He worked at a 67% ground-ball rate on the night.
After Lansing took a 1-0 lead in the first, the Kernels responded in the third as Prato and Encarnacion-Strand walked and doubled respectively to open the third. Sabato smoked a two-run single down the right field line to put Cedar Rapids in front. The Lugnuts knotted things up at two in the home half.
Mack opened the fifth with a triple into right-center then crossed home on a Prato RBI single. Prato stole second and third, with his second steal drawing a throw into left that allowed him to score for the 4-2 lead.
Tyler Palm and Bobby Milacki each earned holds by combining to cover the sixth, seventh and eighth. Insurance came in the eighth for Cedar Rapids as Mack singled home Morales followed by a two-run Prato triple lined into right field.
Lansing made things interesting with two runs in the ninth, but Derek Molina entered with the tying run on deck and slammed the door for his second save of the season.
Game five of the series is set for a 7:05 pm ET start on Saturday evening in Lansing.
