
Dragons Joe Boyle Wins Midwest League Pitcher of the Month for May

DAYTON, OHIO - Dayton Dragons starting pitcher Joe Boyle has been named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Month for May.
Boyle posted a 1.09 earned run average for the month, going 1-0 in five starts. In May, Boyle allowed just eight hits and three runs in 24.2 innings, striking out 34.
For the full season, Boyle leads all Minor League Baseball in ERA (0.72) and opponent's batting average (.077). He has made eight starts covering 37.2 innings and has allowed only three runs and only nine hits. Opponents are 3 for 51 against Boyle with men on base and 1 for 22 with men in scoring position.
Boyle becomes the fifth Dayton player to win a monthly Midwest League award since 2005. Brian O'Grady won the MWL Player of the Month award in June, 2015; Tyler Mahle won the same award in July, 2015; Jose Siri won it in July, 2017. James Marinan won the MWL Pitcher of the Month award in September, 2021.
Boyle was named Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 23-29. He fired six no-hit innings on May 24 at West Michigan to earn the win, striking out eight and walking three.
Boyle is a native of Goshen, Kentucky, where he attended North Oldham High School. He played collegiately at Notre Dame before being signed by the Cincinnati Reds as a fifth round draft pick in 2020.
The Dragons continue a six-game series tonight against the South Bend Cubs at 7:05 p.m. at Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District. The series continues with games through Sunday.
