CHICAGO - The WNBA Chicago Sky will face the Connecticut Sun on May 31 7 p.m. (CDT) at the UIC Pavilion on Thursday, followed by a road game on Friday, June 1 at 6 p.m. against the Washington Mystics. The Sky return home on Sunday, June 3 to face off against the Minnesota Lynx at 5 p.m.

The Sky (1-2) picked up their first win of the regular season on Friday in Minneapolis against the Minnesota Lynx, 82-77. The Sky scored 34 points in the paint in the game, compared to 18 in Tuesday's loss to Los Angeles and shot 53.6 percent from the field, improving on a 35.8 percent average coming into the game. Candice Dupree led the Sky with 25 points, matching her career high, on 12 of 15 shooting, with 5 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Stacey Dales added 15 points, including 3 of 6 from the 3-point line, with 6 assists. Rookie Armintie Price finished with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists and Kayte Christensen had a team-high 7 rebounds. In her first appearance in a Sky uniform, center Chasity Melvin made her presence felt in the paint, adding 5 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocked shots and 1 steal in 23 minutes.

SKY MOVES

In the first week of the 2007 season, the Sky made a major roster change, trading guard Monique Currie to the Washington Mystics for WNBA veteran center Chasity Melvin. Melvin has played in the WBNA for eight years, and had just started her fourth season for the Mystics. The 6-3 center has a career average 11 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, with a 47% field goal percentage.

WNBA ALL-STAR VOTING

WNBA All-Star Voting has begun, and the Sky has five players on the ballot, including Dominique Canty, Kayte Christensen, Stacey Dales, Candice Dupree and Chasity Melvin (listed under Washington Mystics). In 2006, Dupree was the lone selection from the Sky on the WNBA All-Star Team. Voting can be done in-game through the end of June and online at Chicagosky.net. The WNBA All-Star Game will be held on July 15 at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC.

SKY BALL GIRL LOSES HOME IN FIRE

Nichole Witter, a loyal Chicago Sky ball girl, and her mother recently lost their home and all of their belongings in a fire. The Sky is stepping in to help and collecting donations to help the Witters rebuild at this week's home games and at the Sky offices. In addition to cash donations, the following gift cards are most needed: Visa or American Express; Target; Bed, Bath & Beyond; Jewel, Dominick's or Whole Foods; and Sears. Greeting cards or notes will also be forwarded to the family, for those who are not able to donate money or gift cards. All donations will be presented to the Witters at the 6/3 game at UIC Pavilion.

SKY'S GOT TALENT

The half-time performers for 5/31 game against the Connecticut Sun will be Quick Change, finalists on the NBC show "America's Got Talent." Quick Change is a performance group that combines ballroom dance moves with dramatic costume changes. WNBA and NBA game ops directors named Quick Change the league's most requested halftime attraction.

DANCE COMPETITION

Two finalists will compete in a dance-off during halftime at the June 3 Chicago Sky game vs. Minnesota for cash prizes and the opportunity to perform at Chicago Sky games as the Sky Dance Team. House Arrest 2 from Chicago and Fusion Dance Company from Buffalo Grove will compete for the grand prize, after beating out 20 other teams in previous competitions to reach the finals. The winner of the grand prize of $1,000 and a contract to perform at three future Chicago Sky games will be decided by judging and fan applause. The runners up will receive $500 and a contract to perform at one future Chicago Sky game.

CHICAGO SKY AROUND TOWN

Wednesday, May 30: From 4 to 5 p.m., Sky forward JIA PERKINS will appear at the Lincoln- Belmont Branch Library (1659 W. Melrose St.) as part of the team's summer reading program partnership with the Chicago Public Library (CPL). This appearance marks the third of 12 "Reading Time-Outs," with players visiting local library branches to encourage the 45,000-plus annual participants in CPL's City of Big Readers Summer Reading Program.
