Chicago Sky Releases Lassiter and Rubino

CHICAGO, May 17, 2007 - The Chicago Sky released veteran Amanda Lassiter and DePaul guard Jenna Rubino on May 16, 2007 as the team finalized its 2007 roster. The team released guard Dionnah Jackson last week; forward Deanna Jackson is suspended. Head Coach Bo Overton will keep a 13-player roster, with 11 active and 2 inactive players each game.

"We are deep at the guard position this season, and had to make a difficult decision with these last roster spots," said Overton.

Lassiter, a six-year WNBA veteran and returning Sky player, was waived after playing in three pre-season games. She was selected as the 15th overall pick in the first round of the 2001 WNBA Draft by the Houston Comets. In her first season, she ranked among the rookie leaders in points (16th with 4.3 pts) and rebounds (8th with 3.4 rpg) and set a new record with 34 assists - the most by a Comets rookie in one season. Lassiter was traded to Seattle in 2002, and was acquired as a free agent by Minnesota in 2004, before being acquired by the Chicago Sky in 2006. A native of northern California, Lassiter played two seasons at Missouri following two years at Central Arizona Community College, where she was the NJCAA tournament MVP in 1998.

Chicago-native Rubino, who was selected 27th overall by the Sky in the 2007 WNBA Draft, was waived after playing in three pre-season games. She will graduate from DePaul University in June. She finished her college career with 1,314 points, 552 rebounds, 319 assists and 175 career three-pointers. She helped lead the Blue Demons to the second-best four-year record in school history (95-32), and to the NCAA Tournament all four years, finishing in the Sweet 16 her junior year. She recorded her best season as a senior, averaging a career high of 12.6 points and 5.7 rebounds, and was named the 2007 Big East/Aeropostale Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and received the conference's Sportsmanship Award.

The Chicago Sky opens the regular season Sunday, May 20 at Madison Square Garden against the Liberty and then opens at home on May 22 against the Los Angeles Sparks at 7pm at the UIC Pavilion. The Sky is the newest of 13 teams in the WNBA, the longest- running women's professional sports league in the world. The Sky celebrated it inaugural season in 2006.
