
Sacramento Monarchs Announce 2007 Final Roster

SACRAMENTO, CALIF., May 17, 2007 - The Sacramento Monarchs today announced the roster for the 2007 WNBA regular season. New additions to the team include: La'Tangela Atkinson, acquired by the Monarchs from the Indiana Fever; Chelsea Newton, acquired from the Chicago Sky after being a member of the 2005 Monarchs; and Adrian Williams, acquired from the Minnesota Lynx.
Returning to Sacramento for another season are: six time WNBA All-Star, former League MVP, and member of the WNBA's All-Decade Team, Yolanda Griffith; four-time WNBA All-Star and the League's all-time assists leader, Ticha Penicheiro; 2005 WNBA All-Star, DeMya Walker; 2003 WNBA First Round Draft Pick (fifth overall), Kara Lawson; the WNBA's 2005 Most Improved Player, Nicole Powell; the Monarchs 2005 First Round Draft Pick (ninth overall), Kristin Haynie; Sacramento's 2004 First Round Draft Pick (10th overall), Rebekkah Brunson; 2006 WNBA First Round Draft Pick (14th overall), Scholanda Robinson; 2006 WNBA First Round Draft Pick (13th overall), Kim Smith; and free agent, Brittany Wilkins.
On Saturday, May 19, the Monarchs will be nationally televised on ABC, for the WNBA's Opening Day, against the Detroit Shock, at 12:30 p.m. PDT, at The Palace of Auburn Hills. After a four game road swing, the Monarchs will be back in Sacramento for their Home Opener to take on their Western Conference rivals, the Los Angeles Sparks, on Saturday, June 2 at 7:00 p.m. PDT, at ARCO Arena.
