Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO, IL (July 24, 2009) - The Chicago Fire is proud to team up with the Illinois State Soccer Association (ISSA) and the Illinois Youth Soccer Association (IYSA) as they present the 2009 Chicago Beach Soccer Tournament on Saturday, July 25th and Sunday, July 26th at Montrose Beach in Chicago. The event will run from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM both days, and all ages can enjoy the games on Chicago's lakefront.
The Chicago Fire will be at the tournament each day, bringing a Fire tent complete with a prize wheel to win Chicago Fire Frisbees amongst other great Chicago Fire gear. The Chicago Fire's mascot, Sparky, will be at the event on Saturday for the ceremonial kick-off to the soccer tournament.
"The Fire's participation in the 2009 Chicago Beach Soccer Tournament is a great opportunity for us to reach out to our community and also support the ISSA and IYSA, two groups with which we work closely day to day. This tournament is a great way to celebrate and promote the game of soccer and we are proud to serve as sponsors again," says Dave Greeley, President of the Chicago Fire.
The Fire will be selling tickets to its next home game on Saturday, August 1st versus Real Salt Lake at 7:30 PM at TOYOTA PARK. A special ticket offer will be available to all participants of the tournament. The winning team (one adult; men and co-ed only) will also receive tickets to the game, and the winners of the tournament will be recognized at the August 1st game.
"We are excited to host the 2009 Beach Soccer Tournament this weekend at Montrose Beach" said Branko Ilic, President of Illinois State Soccer Association. "It is always a fun event, and we welcome everyone to come out and join us and the Fire to celebrate this great game."
Chicago Fire staff will be participating in all the fun, as they have entered one co-ed team into the tournament. Many seasoned soccer players in the office are looking forward to showing off their skills in the annual tournament.
"The Chicago Fire has partnered with us at every Beach Soccer Tournament since 2000 and have always been an integral part of creating excitement around the event," said Ilic.
