
Chicago Fire Acquire Nicolas Hasler

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced Friday that it has acquired Nicolas Hasler from Toronto FC in exchange for Jon Bakero and $50,000 in General Allocation Money. The 27-year-old is under contract for the 2018 season with a club option for 2019. He will be added to the roster upon receipt of his ITC and P1 Visa.
The 2017 MLS Cup champion began his MLS career when he signed with Toronto FC on July 13, 2017 from Swiss League side FC Vaduz. Hasler scored three goals and added four assists in 24 regular season matches, and made two postseason appearances for Toronto.
Prior to joining MLS, Hasler appeared in 157 matches and scored 14 goals and added six assists across all competitions for Swiss Football League side FC Vaduz from 2011-2017.
The 2015 Liechtensteiner Footballer of the Year, Hasler had 14 goals and six assists in 157 matches across all competitions with Vaduz. He helped lead Vaduz to five consecutive Liechtenstein Cups from the 2012-2013 season through 2016-2017, and also the Swiss Challenge League title in 2013-2014.
Hasler began his youth career with FC Triesen in 2001 and also represented both the youth and first teams for FC Balzers. He moved to USV Eschen/Mauren for the 2010-2011 season where he appeared in 22 matches and scored three goals.
The Vaduz, Liechtenstein native made his senior national team debut for Liechtenstein on Aug. 11, 2010 and has since earned 51 caps. Hasler scored his first international goal against Bosnia-Herzegovina in a 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifier on Oct. 11, 2013 and added his second in a friendly against Finland on June 7, 2017.
Selected in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft, Bakero departs after appearing in four MLS matches.
