Chicago Bandits News Release

CHANTILLY, VA.-It wasn't the prettiest one-hitter ever pitched, but the Chicago Bandits will take it.

Despite giving up seven walks and the Bandits committing three errors, Jessica Sallinger and Jamie Southern combined for a one-hitter against the Washington Glory to lead the Bandits to a 4-3 victory in game two of a four game series at the Westfield Sports Complex in National Pro Fastpitch action Saturday night.

Southern recorded her first save of the season when she relieved Sallinger in the beginning of the sixth inning with Chicago (10-8) leading 4-3. Washington's Courtney Bures walked in seventh inning and Oli Keohohou reached base on a fielders choice. Chicago failed to get Bures out on a fielding error and the Glory (15-8) had two runners on with one out. But Southern got out of the jam by striking out Washington's next to hitters to end the game.

Chicago scored all of its runs in the fourth inning. Folden led off the inning with a walk and Jaime Clark hit her second home run in as many days to give Chicago a 2-0 lead. When Trimboli walked next, Kristie Fox belted out her second home run of the season to give Chicago what seemed to be a comfortable 4-0 advantage.

The Bandits committed two costly errors in the fifth inning that put Nicole Barber and Courtney Bures on base. Sallinger (5-2) had a no-hitter until Catalina Morris made Chicago pay with a three-run shot to cut the Bandit's lead to 4-3. It was the Glory's first and only hit of the game.

Sallinger got into trouble in the second inning despite not surrendering a hit. Sallinger walked the Glory's first two batters-Sara Larquier and Cambria Miranda-and Amber Jackson advanced the runners to second and third with a sacrifice bunt. But Sallinger got Washington's next two runners to fly out without scoring a run.

The Glory put two players on base without recording a hit in the fourth inning also. Larquier was hit by a pitch and Miranda walked. The runners could not advance though as Amber Jackson lined out and Calista Balko struck out looking to end the inning.

Notes: Electing not to challenge Rachel Folden and her four home runs on the season, the Glory walked Folden twice...Taryne Mowatt (0-4) was hit with the loss for the Glory after pitching the first four innings...Sallinger went five innings allowing six walks and striking out four...Game three is set for Sunday at the Westfield Sports Complex at 6:05 central time.
