Boise, ID (January 5, 2006) - The Idaho Stampede are proud to announce that Eric Chenowith and Matt Freije have been selected to represent the Stampede at the 22nd annual CBA All-Star Classic. They are part of the 10 player team that was voted to the Western Conference roster. All-Star game participants were voted on by the eight CBA head coaches and 13 selected media members from the eight markets for a total of 21 votes. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
Chenowith currently leads the CBA in rebounding, averaging 14.7 rebounds per game, and is second in double-doubles this season with 14. He was also selected as the CBA Player of the Week for his efforts during the week of December 19-25. So far this season Chenowith has broken the Stampede all-time record for rebounds in a single game twice when he grabbed 25 rebounds against Dakota in late November and then 29 rebounds against Sioux Falls last week.
Freije is also a former CBA Player of the Week. He took the award for his performances last week when he averaged 26 points per game and also shot a perfect 8 for 8 from the field and 7 for 7 from the line against Gary. Freije's most notable performance may have come earlier this season when he received six stitches during the first half of a game and then returned in the second half to score 23 points.
This year's All-Star Classic will be held at Qwest Arena in downtown Boise. The event's title sponsor is Athletes.com and will be hosted by the Idaho Stampede. Activities begin on Monday, January 16th when the Western and Eastern Conference teams hold practices that are open to the public. The West will practice at 6:00 p.m. at Qwest Arena and the East will follow at 7:00 p.m. All-star events then resume on Tuesday beginning at 6:00 p.m. with the Hopkins Financial Slam Dunk competition and the Long Distance Shootout followed by the All-Star game beginning at 7:15 p.m.
