Cheesman's Late Goal Lifts Nailers

WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers opened their 2006 preseason schedule Friday night at WesBanco Arena against the Johnstown Chiefs in front over 2,000 fans.

In the first period the line of Kurtis McLean, Sean Collins and Jordan Cameron got the scoring started just 1:05 into the first period when McLean backhanded a shot over the right shoulder of Chiefs goaltender,Morgan Cey. Just a minute later Johnstown tied the game on a power play goal by Lascek . With under a minute to play in the first Ryan Moren would get his first goal of the preseason to give the Nailers a 2-1 lead heading into the intermission.

In the second period Ned Havern's first goal of the preseason gave the Nailers a 3-1 lead at 2;31. Johnstown would pull within one on a goal by Smolenak at the 3:51 mark. Kurtis McLean would tally his second goal of the night at 10:08 to give the Nailers a two goal lead at 4-2. Boisclair would pull the Chiefs to within one goal before the end of the second to make it 4-3 Nailers.

In the third period Johnstown would tie the game at 4 before Bo Cheesman's last minute goal with just :13 left in the game.

These same two teams will do battle again tomorrow night in Johnstown to wrap up the preseason. The Nailers will travel to Charlotte on October 19th and 20th to open the season before returning home October 27th for the home opener. To order tickets call the Nailers office at 304-234-GOAL.
