Augusta Lynx News Release

Augusta, GA - With training camp well under way and the first pre-season action approaching, the Augusta Lynx added defenseman Nathan Saunders, who was assigned by the NHL's Anaheim Ducks. The club also announced they have either waived or released seven players: defensemen Mathieu Wathier, Michael Hutchins and Jeff Mason, plus forwards Jarrett Robertson, David Klema, David Morelli, and Jay Latulippe.

Saunders, 21, has 20 games of regular season pro experience under his belt with the Portland Pirates last season, scoring once and tacking on 75 minutes in penalties. He also saw action in nine of the Pirates' playoff contests, recording no points and 19 PIMs. A 6-3, 215 lb native of Charlottetown, PEI, Saunders played four seasons of junior hockey for the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL. Over the course of four seasons Saunders tallied 14 goals and 87 points while posting 794 minutes in penalties. He was originally selected by the Ducks in the fourth round, #119 overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Mason and Latulippe played for Augusta last season, while Wathier, Hutchins, Robertson, Klema, and Morelli were new to the Lynx. The team is now down to 26 players, with more cuts expected after pre-season action this weekend.

The Lynx will play this Saturday at 7:35 pm against the Gwinnett Gladiators, and Sunday at 4:05 pm versus the Columbia Inferno. Both games will take place at James Brown Arena. Saturday's game has a $5 admission fee for adults, which allows up to four children 17 and under in free. Sunday's match asks for a canned food or cash donation to benefit the Golden Harvest Food Bank and "It's Spooky To Be Hungry" for admission. Come out and get your hockey fix this weekend with the Lynx!
