CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers had a record breaking year off the ice in 2006-07, as the ECHL club helped raise $400,875 for local charities and other community outreach programs.

Leading the way this season was the amount raised for fundraiser programs throughout the Charlotte community. Through fundraising tickets and "Chuck-a-Puck" sales, the Checkers helped raise nearly $139,000.

The Checkers once again teamed up with Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital to present the Hemby Cup. Along with help from Microsoft, the event helped raise $125,000 for Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital.

The Charlotte Checkers "Race Night" presented by AutoTrader.com was held on Jan. 19 and raised $38,000, to benefit the Victory Junction Gang Camp.

The Checkers inaugural "Pink in the Rink" event and jersey auction generated a total of $ 30,000. Proceeds from this event, which took place on Feb. 11, benefited the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation, Carolina Breast Friends and American Cancer Society.

Another $16,000 was raised at the Fourth Annual "Salute to Heroes Night", held March 11. Proceeds from "Salute to Heroes Night" were donated to the families of the two slain Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers, Jeffrey Shelton and Shawn Clark. In addition, another $1,400 was raised for the two families in a raffle of CMPD Chief Darrel Stephens' "Salute to Heroes Night" game-worn jersey.
