Checkers National Anthem Auditions Thursday

(Charlotte, NC - Wednesday, September 17, 2003) The Charlotte Checkers will be staging National Anthem auditions for the 2003-04 season tomorrow, Thursday, September 18 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Wachovia Atrium in Uptown Charlotte. Soloists, musicians, groups, choirs. bands, and quartets are all welcome to audition. Fans can simply show up at the Wachovia Atrium to audition between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
"This is a great way to get the community involved with one of their favorite, local professional sports teams," quotes Checkers spokesman, Adam Pirttima. "It's a dream of many people to honor our country by singing the National Anthem before a large crowd at a Checkers game. From youngsters to seniors we're going to give them an opportunity to audition, and we expect to hear many tal! ented individuals and groups from the Charlotte area on Thursday."
If for some reason individuals or groups are not able to attend the auditions Thursday at the Wachovia Atrium, another time for an audition can be scheduled by calling Pirttima at the Checkers office at (704) 444-1887 or through e-mail at apirttima@gocheckers.com.
The Checkers will begin their 11th season in the ECHL with the regular season and home opener Saturday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m. hosting the Gwinnett (GA) Gladiators at Cricket Arena.
The Checkers will also stage one preseason game at Cricket Arena on Monday, October 13 when they'll host the Columbia Inferno at 7:00 p.m. Parking at Cricket Arena for the pre-season game is free. All tickets for the preseason game will be reserved and priced at $5.00. Individual tickets for all regular season and preseason games will go on sale on Monday, September 22.
Season tickets for the 2003-04 season are now on sale. Season ticket prices start as low as $245.00. Mini-plans and group discounts are also available. Call the Checkers office at (704) 342-4423 for further information.
