
Checkers Look to Snap Two-Game Losing Streak

TUESDAY'S PREVIEW: The Checkers have split two previous meetings with the Roanoke Express in the eight game season series, losing 5-2 in Roanoke on Oct 19, and winning 4-3 at Cricket Arena on Oct 25. Entering this week Roanoke is tied for third place with Atlantic City in the Northeast Division with 13 points and a record of 6-2-1. Forwards Dylan Gyori (3-14-17) and Rick Kowalsky (8-7-15) are among the top ten scorers in the ECHL. Goalie Sebastien LaPlante has the sixth lowest goals against average in the ECHL at 1.97.
WEDNESDAY'S AND SATURDAY'S PREVIEW: The Checkers will host the South Carolina Stingrays on Wednesday at Cricket Arena, and then play at the North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday. This week's meetings are the first two of a six game season series. The Stingrays are under new Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons, who served as an assistant under former Head Coach Rick Adduono the past several seasons. South Carolina jumped off to a 6-0-0 start before dropping two straight last weekend for a 6-2-2 mark.
FRIDAY'S PREVIEW: The Checkers will meet the Augusta Lynx in Georgia on Friday in the first of four regular season meetings. Charlotte will look for its' first-ever victory over the Lynx in Augusta. Since the franchise moved from Raleigh to Augusta in 1998, the Checkers are 0-7-3 at the Richmond County Civic Center in Georgia. Augusta enters this week on a five game losing streak and are in 7th place in the Southeast Division at 3-7-0 for six points.
CHECKERS MOVES AND TRANSACTIONS: (Monday, November 4)
The Hartford Wolf Pack assigned defensemen Jeff State and Craig Weller to the Checkers.
Winger Vince Malts has been activated from the 7 day IR.
Winger Walker McDonald has been placed on the 7 day IR. (Retro to Nov 2) Defenseman Danny Powell has been placed on waivers.
The Checkers signed forward Brad Mehalko, and traded him to the Trenton Titans for future considerations.
A NEW SET OF CHECKERS STREAKERS: Two Checkers saw their scoring streaks end last week. Takahito Suzuki (4g-4a-8pts) and Allan Egeland (3g-3a-6pts) were both held scoreless in last week's two games. However, forwards Konrad McKay, Kevin Caulfield and Dusty Jamieson have established new scoring streaks for the Checkers. Jamieson and Caulfield have scored goals in three straight games, and McKay has scored a point in his first four regular season games.
EARLY SCHEDULE IS A SLOW ONE: The Checkers have played the second fewest number of games in the ECHL this season with seven. Only Cincinnati with six has played fewer games than the Checkers entering this week's action. In the Northeast Division, Reading has played 13 games so far and Trenton and Richmond have played 11. The Checkers are beginning to catch up as they're in a stretch of six games in nine days, and four in five this week.
