Adirondack Phantoms News Release
(PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 4, 2002) - The Philadelphia Phantoms today recalled center Eric Betournay and left wing Matt Zultek from the Trenton Titans of the East Coast Hockey League. The duo will be available to play on Wednesday when the Phantoms host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the First Union Spectrum. To make room for Betournay and Zultek, rookie left wing Jack Baker and right wing Craig Brunel were reassigned to Trenton.
Betournay has split this season between the Phantoms and Titans. He played in six games with Trenton, recording four goals, three assists and six penalty minutes, while also appearing in two games with the Phantoms. During the 2001-02 season, Betournay played 72 games with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens of the QMJHL, ranking third on the team in points with 103 (38G, 65A). After a late-season call-up to the Phantoms, he appeared in three regular-season and four playoff games.
Zultek played in 11 games with Trenton this season, totaling nine points (5G, 4A) and a team-leading 60 PIM. Three of his five goals came on power plays, and two of five were game-winning goals. Zultek spent the majority of last season with the Titans, but he appeared in one playoff game with the Phantoms. In 2000-01, however, he played in 16 games with the Phantoms, totaling five points (1G, 4A).
Baker recorded one assist and six PIM over eight games with the Phantoms this season after signing an AHL contract on Aug. 1. In his four-year college career with Boston University, Baker played in 138 games, compiling 91 points (43G, 48A). During his senior year, he ranked second on the team in points (28), goals (15) and shots (99). He also tied for first in game-winning goals (3) and tied for third in power-play goals (5). Brunel has played in six games with the Phantoms this season, acquiring one goal and seven PIM. Last season with the Phantoms, Brunel played in 43 games, recording three points (1G, 2A) and 213 PIM. He also played in five regular-season games with the Titans, accumulating four points (1G, 3A) and 10 PIM.
