
Chouinard Joins Canadian Nationals

BINGHAMTON, NY âThe Ottawa Senators have loaned goaltender Mathieu Chouinard to Canada's National Men's Team for the 2002 Deutschland Cup, National Men's Team General Manager Steve Tambellini announced on Monday.
Chouinard, 22, is presently with the AHL's Binghamton Senators. The native of Boisbriand, QC played for Canada's National Under 18 Team in 1997, winning the 3 Nations Cup in the Czech Republic.
Chouinard has not appeared in the Senators' first nine games this season. Chouinard joins six other players on loan from NHL teams: Micki Dupont (Calgary), Michael Henrich (Edmonton), Steve Kariya (Vancouver), Travis Roche (Minnesota), Peter Sarno (Edmonton) and Jonathan Sim (Dallas).
Canada's National Men's Team for international events such as the Deutschla nd Cup are comprised of Canadians either currently playing in Europe or in the AHL.
Deutschland Cup in Hannover, Germany (November 8-10, 2002)
Canada's entry for the Deutschland Cup, coached by Gary Green, will take part in an exhibition game in Cologne on Nov. 6th against Germany and in the Deutschland Cup from November 8-10 in Hannover, Germany. Canada will be facing National teams from Germany, Switzerland and the USA in this event. Canada won the Deutschland Cup for the first time in 2000 and finished 3rd in 2001. The team will have the seven players on loan from NHL teams, several former NHL-ers, including Shawn Anderson, Lonny Bohonos and Alex Hicks and former Olympians Todd Hlushko and Brad Schlegel.
Canada's Rosters for the Deutschland Cup and an Exhibition Game prior to the event are posted at www.canadianhockey.ca.
The CHA and the Men's Team coaching staff are taking part in these competitions with two different rosters as an opportunity to develop and evaluate players for future events in Europe.
