Checkers Loan Ford To Hartford

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - General manager and head coach of the Charlotte Checkers Derek Wilkinson announced today that the team has loaned forward Matthew Ford to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.

Ford, 6-foot-1, 207-pounds was selected in the 8th round of the 2004 National Hockey League Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. In five games with the Checkers this season, he has collected six goals and three assists for nine points. Currently, he leads the team in both goals and points. Ford spent the last four seasons playing for the University of Wisconsin where he totaled 21 goals, 18 assists for 38 points in 124 games. The West Hills, Calif. native also collected 100 penalty minutes during his four seasons with the Badgers.

The Checkers are getting ready for their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. Opening night will take place on Nov. 8 against the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:00 p.m. start. In the team's 15-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 11 times including four consecutive playoff appearances to date.
