Charlotte's Jakaitis Named RBC Financial Group ECHL Saver of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Jeff Jakaitis of the Charlotte Checkers is the RBC Financial Group ECHL Saver of the Month for October.

The 25 year old was 4-0-0 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 1.75 and a save percentage of .934 to help Charlotte sit atop the South Division at 5-2-0.

He was named ECHL Goaltender of the Week on Oct. 21 after making 35 saves, including stopping the last 20 shots he faced, in a 3-1 win at Florida on Oct. 18. Jakaitis posted back-to-back one-goal road wins at Mississippi on Oct. 25 and 26. He ended the month stopping all 22 shots in a 5-0 win against Augusta in the Checkers home opener on Oct. 31.

The 5-foot-10 and 165-pound netminder played as a rookie last season with Columbia where he was 12-14-6 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.92 and a save percentage of .909 in 36 regular season games.

The Rochester, Minn. native played three seasons at Lake Superior State University where he was 35-48-14 with seven shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.44 and a save percentage of .923 in 100 games.

Runners-Up: Jeff Zatkoff, Ontario (4-1-0, 2.20 GAA, .935 Save Pct.) and David Brown, Wheeling (2-0-0, 1.50 GAA, .950 Save Pct.).

Also Nominated: Jean-Phillipe Lamoureux (Alaska), David Leggio (Florida), Kevin Nastiuk (Gwinnett), Craig Kowalski (Phoenix), Danny Taylor (Reading), Josh Johnson (South Carolina) and Jeff Frazee (Trenton).
