Checkers Get Two Back From Affiliates

CHARLOTTE, NC-Charlotte Checkers general manager and head coach Derek Wilkinson announced today that defenseman Kevin Schaeffer has been returned by the American Hockey League's Lake Erie Monsters and goaltender Miika Wiikman has been assigned by the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Schaeffer played in five games with the Monsters registering two assists and two penalty minutes. The 25-year-old blueliner played 51 games in the AHL last season with the Providence Bruins and Binghamton Senators.

Wiikman, 25, played in four games with Hartford this season, posting a 2-2-0 record with a 3.27 goals against average and.888 save percentage. In 2008-09, the 5-foot-11 netminder from Sweden led Hartford in games (43), saves (1,043) and tied for the lead in shutouts with two.

Both players will be in the lineup this afternoon when the Checkers (4-2-1-0) host the Kalamazoo Wings (7-1-1-0) at Time Warner Cable Arena. Game time is 2 p.m. and ticket information can be obtained by calling 704-342-4-ICE or visiting www.gocheckers.com.
