Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Checkers have clinched a spot in the 2009 Kelly Cup Playoffs and vice president of the team, Shawn Lynch announced today that Charlotte's post-season home games A and B will be on sale starting Friday.

The Checkers gained a point in a shootout loss to the Florida Everblades on March 22 in a 3-2 defeat while the Mississippi Sea Wolves lost to South Carolina in regulation. This gave the Checkers a mathematical edge to finish at least in the fourth seed in the South Division. This has extended the post-season streak for Charlotte to five consecutive seasons and 12 times in the team's history.

"We are happy to clinch but we have a bigger focus on entering the post-season with momentum. The remaining games in the regular season are still important. We are looking forward to another season of playoff hockey in Charlotte and our goal remains the same-to win the Kelly Cup," said head coach and general manager Derek Wilkinson.

Both playoffs games for Charlotte will take place at the Extreme Ice Center located at 4705 Indian Trail-Fairvew Road, Indian Trail, N.C. 28079.
