Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers season is barely underway, but the team has already started their campaign to give back to the Charlotte community.
During both games on Oct. 19 and Oct. 20, the Checkers implemented programs that would help donate money to several key foundations. Ticket sales generated from the home opener (Oct. 19) were able to raise $4,500 for the Moe's Victims Fund. The money went to help the families of the victims of the Moe's shooting previously this month. You can still donate to the Moe's Victims Fund by going to any Wachovia branch and making a donation. The Checkers would like to thank Fox Morning News, Ian Ferguson Manor Partners, Bill Nolan Steamers Bar, Jerry Kressner from Providence Paint Company, Masterpiece Paint Company and Edifice, Northlake Optimist, Jamie Keller and the Northlake Knights, Jersey Mike's Subs, Moe's Southwest Grill, Moe's Southwest Corporate, Wachovia and the Checkers fans for their participation.
The following night, the Checkers and Jazzercise of the Carolinas raised $2,500 to help build the new Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte. Guided by lead instructor, Sarah Heins, 80 men and women performed at center ice to create awareness for the cause. This is the second year the Checkers have partnered with Jazzercise to help raise funds to build a Ronald McDonald House and during that time they have raised over $8,000. If you would like to help build the new Ronald McDonald House, please visit www.rmhofcharlotte.com and to learn more about Jazzercise, please visit www.jazzercise.com. Other groups that helped raise funds include: State Farm Insurance, CHOA and AAA Carolinas.
The Checkers began their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game takes place on Oct. 23 against the Augusta Lynx at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Game time is 7 p.m. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers will enter their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena this fall. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $399. The Checkers are accepting deposits on all ticket packages. For season ticket information, please call 704-342-4-ICE or visit www.gocheckers.com.
