Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Checkers today announced that they have acquired forward Andrew Miller on loan from the Bakersfield Condors. Additionally, the Checkers have loaned forward Zach Boychuk to Bakersfield.

Miller, a 27-year-old native of Bloomfield Hills, MI, ranked second on the Condors in scoring with 39 points, including a team-high 24 assists. A product of Yale University, the 5-foot-10, 181-pound Miller has totaled 133 points (50g, 83a) in 159 career AHL games with Oklahoma City and Bakersfield over his first three professional seasons. During that time, he also posted six points (1g, 5a) in 15 NHL games with Edmonton, becoming the first Oilers player to score his first NHL goal on a penalty shot.

In college, the undrafted Miller captained Yale to its first-ever NCAA title in 2013 and was named Frozen Four MVP with four points (2g, 2a) in two games.

Boychuk, 26, departs as the Checkers' all-time leader in points (275), goals (123), assists (152) and games played (337). One of just three players (Michal Jordan and Rasmus Rissanen) to play in all six of the team's AHL seasons, Boychuk, who the Hurricanes chose in the first round (14th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, ranked tied for fifth on the Checkers in scoring with 25 points (9g, 16a) in 56 games this season.

Despite the exchange of players at the AHL level, the NHL affiliation of each player does not change. Miller remains within the Edmonton Oilers organization and Boychuk likewise with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Miller is expected to be available when the Checkers continue their current home stand at Bojangles' Coliseum with a game against the Chicago Wolves this Tuesday at 7 p.m.
