Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - The Storm Chasers rode a huge 5th inning to a decisive victory, defeating the Dodgers 13-2 on Tuesday night at Bricktown Ballpark.
Omaha took the lead in the top of the 1st, as Paulo Orlando singled, went to 2nd on a groundout, and scored on a Frank Schwindel single.
The Dodgers tied it in the bottom of the 1st; Andrew Toles singled, took 2nd on a wild pitch, went to 3rd on an infield hit by Kyle Farmer, and came home on a single by Edwin Rios.
Paulo Orlando put the Chasers ahead 2-1 in the top of the 3rd, smashing his 9th home run of the season.
Omaha broke the game open in the top of the 5th, scoring 8 runs. Donnie DeWees singled, Luis Villegas reached on a throwing error, and with 2 out, Paulo Orlando was intentionally walked to load the bases. Nicky Lopez was then hit by a pitch, making it 3-1. That was all for starter Kyle Lobstein; Stetson Allie replaced him, but he immediately surrendered a Grand Slam to Frank Schwindel, making it 7-1.
The uprising wasn't over, however. Cam Gallagher walked, Ramon Torres doubled, Humberto Arteaga singled, and Donnie DeWees doubled home 2 more, bringing the score to 10-1.
Kyle Lobstein (L, 0-5) was charged with 6 runs (2 earned), 4 hits, and 1 walk in 4.2 innings. He struck out 3.
Arnaldo Hernandez (W, 5-1), the reigning PCL Pitcher of the Week, turned in another excellent outing for Omaha. He limited the Dodgers to 1 run on 3 hits in 6 frames. He struck out 4 and walked 1.
Edwin Rios belted a home run in the bottom of the 7th against Pedro Fernandez , cutting the lead to 10-2. But Fernandez responded with a scoreless 8th.
The Chasers tacked on more in the top of the 9th. Parker Morin singled, Ramon Torres was hit by a pitch, Humberto Arteaga singled in Morin, Donnie DeWees reached on an error (plating Torres), and Elier Hernandez drove in DeWees with a single. It was 13-2.
Sam Selman closed the game in the bottom of the 9th, sealing a resounding road win for Omaha.
The Storm Chasers (59-67) will continue the series at Bricktown tomorrow night at 7:05. LHP Jake Kalish (6-5, 3.50) will take the ball for Omaha, while Oklahoma City will counter with RHP Brock Stewart (3-2, 2.66).
