Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City - The Omaha Storm Chasers scored eight runs in the fifth inning on the way to a 13-2 win against the Oklahoma City Dodgers Tuesday night to open a three-game series between the teams at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The eight runs scored by Omaha were the most runs allowed in one inning by the Dodgers this season and gave Omaha a fourth straight win against Oklahoma City.
The Storm Chasers (59-67) took a quick lead Tuesday. Paulo Orlando hit a one-out single and came around to score on a RBI single by Frank Schwindel for a 1-0 Omaha advantage in the first inning.
The Dodgers (66-59) tied the game in the bottom of the inning, hitting three singles, including a RBI knock by Edwin RÃ-os to bring home Andrew Toles and tie the game, 1-1.
Omaha starting pitcher Arnaldo Hernandez (5-1) then held the Dodgers without another hit through his six innings of work. He allowed one walk and had four strikeouts in the win.
The Storm Chasers added a run in the third inning when Orlando connected on a solo homer that landed on the concourse beyond the Dodgers' bullpen in left-center field for a 2-1 advantage.
Omaha then scored eight team unearned runs in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, Nicky Lopez was hit by pitch by Dodgers starting pitcher Kyle Lobstein to boost Omaha's lead to 3-1. With the bases loaded again, Schwindel followed and hit a grand slam out to left field to put Omaha in front, 7-1, as Schwindel finished the game with five RBI. The grand slam was the seventh allowed by the Dodgers this season, as well as the second of the season hit by Omaha against Oklahoma City.
Ramon Torres later lined a RBI double into left field for an 8-1 Omaha lead and Donnie Dewees tacked on a two-run double to open up a 10-1 advantage in the fifth inning.
Once Omaha starting pitcher Arnaldo Hernandez exited the game, the Dodgers were able to add another run.
RÃ-os led off the bottom of the seventh inning and hit a solo homer out to right-center field for the Dodgers' second run of the night, and his second RBI of the game. The homer was his ninth of the season.
Omaha added three more runs in the ninth inning. Humberto Arteaga hit a RBI single before two additional runs scored on a fielder's choice and an error to extend Omaha to a 13-2 lead. The Storm Chasers outhit the Dodgers, 15-7, in the game.
Lobstein (0-5) was charged with the loss, allowing six runs (two earned) and four hits over 4.2 innings with one walk and three strikeouts.
The 13 runs allowed by the Dodgers were the most given up by Oklahoma City since a 14-0 loss to Memphis Aug. 11 and marked the third time in the month of August Oklahoma City allowed at least 13 runs in a game.
The series between Oklahoma City and Omaha continues at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
