Charlotte Junior Checkers Extreme "Face-Off" with the Charlotte Checkers

(Charlotte, NC) On August 31st at 7:00 pm Charlotte Youth Hockey (CYH) will proudly announce the area's youth travel hockey teams (the Charlotte Junior Checkers) for the 2006-2007 hockey season. 100 young hockey players ranging in age from 9 to 16 years have been selected to form 6 separate teams to represent Charlotte, Charlotte Youth Hockey (CYH) and the Carolina Hockey League (CHL) at numerous tournaments and league games for the next seven months. The teams will be announced during a raucous celebratory NHL-like "draft" reception presided by "Chubby" (official mascot for the Charlotte Checkers), several Checker hockey players and numerous Charlotte hockey executives at the Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail (a brand new state-of-the-art double rink and official practice facility for the Charlotte Checkers hockey organization).

"Youth hockey is exploding in Charlotte," states Scott Grove, President of CYH. "Approximately 300 kids have logged countless hours in summer development and tryouts in a bid to earn a coveted spot as a Charlotte Junior Checker. These young athletes live for hockey and have an unparalleled enthusiasm and desire for the sport. CYH is committed to providing them with the opportunity to play at the most competitive levels possible, and this year we're especially excited by the Charlotte Checker's support - they, better than anybody, understand how the promotion of the sport leads to the talented professionals and stars of tomorrow."

Jeff Longo, President of the Charlotte Checkers organization supports this sentiment. "Our players rose up through the ranks of youth hockey leagues to find themselves professional athletes - these opportunities start locally. We're pleased to support CYH and rally behind the Junior Checkers in an ongoing promotion of this fantastic sport at both the youth and professional levels for the great city of Charlotte."

This season finds the Charlotte Junior Checkers competing in league games and tournaments in Raleigh, Wilmington and Greensborough in North Carolina and also outside of the State to Florida, West Virginia, Ohio, Georgia, Tennessee and Pennsylvania to name a few.
