Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors Professional Hockey Club has agreed to terms with brothers Andrew and Nathan Oke for the 2006-07 season, Head Coach Marty Raymond announced today.
Andrew, who turned 25 on Aug. 26, signed to play with the Condors last season, but didn't report to training camp for personal reasons.
The 6-foot-2-inch, 195-pound defenseman from Fenelon Falls, Ontario last played in 2004-05 for the Toledo Storm and Gwinnett Gladiators. In 71 games split between the two clubs, Andrew netted 15 points (8g, 7a) while amassing 144 penalty minutes. In five playoff games with Gwinnett, he recorded one assist and four penalty minutes.
Andrew began his pro career in 2002-03, splitting time with the Central Hockey League's Laredo Bucks, Wichita Thunder and Tulsa Oilers. In 2003-04 he played for the Alabama Slammers and Jacksonville Barracudas of the World Hockey Association 2 and the Roanoke Express, then of the ECHL.
"We're very excited to have Andrew join us this season," Raymond said. "His size and presence will be a great asset on the blue line."
Nathan begins his professional career with the Condors this season after spending the last four years in the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League. The 6-foot-2-inch, 21-year-old defenseman also from Fenelon Falls, Ontario split last season with the Port Hope Predators and Aurora Tigers, posting 35 points (9g, 26a) and 84 penalty minutes. His 35 points was tied for 16th among all OPJHL defensemen.
"Nathan is young kid who was successful at the junior level and I think he has potential to be just as successful in our league," Raymond said. "We have a good mix of veterans and young players on our squad so we think Nathan will fit right in. And it's a neat story that he'll be playing with his older brother. It seems like a re-occurring theme in the ECHL to have brothers on the same team, so why not follow suit?"
The Condors open their 2006-07 regular season at Rabobank Arena Friday, Oct. 20 against the Stockton Thunder. For more information or to reserve season tickets, mini-plans and book group outings contact the Condors office at 324-PUCK (7825). Season ticket packages start as low as $30
