CHARLOTTE - The Charlotte Independence face Memphis 901 FC at AutoZone Park on Wednesday, September 2 at 8 p.m. ET and broadcast live on ESPN+. The meeting will be the third of four matchups this season for the Group G opponents.
Jeffries' side will be looking to bounce back after dropping points at the Sportsplex at Matthews on Saturday in a 4-1 loss to Birmingham Legion FC. The Jacks currently sit in second place in the Group G standings, five points clear of North Carolina FC.
"Memphis on the road will be a difficult game," said Independence head coach Mike Jeffries. "After our loss to Birmingham Legion FC, the challenge for us will be trying to get physically back in it and back to the basics of how we want to defend."
In their last match, Tim Mulqueen's side picked up a point with a 2-2 tie against Group G-leading Legion FC at BBVA Compass in Birmingham. Memphis currently sit in fourth place in the Group G standings, six points behind the Jacks.
LAST TIME OUT: The Independence fell 4-1 to Birmingham Legion FC at the Sportsplex at Matthews in its ninth match of the 2020 USL Championship season.
LAST TIME THEY MET: The Charlotte Independence moved into second place in the USL Championship, Group G standings after defeating Memphis 901 FC 3-2 at the Sportsplex at Matthews on Saturday, August 15.
Dane Kelly continued his scorching form with another goal, while Enzo Martinez scored the equalizer and Luke Haakenson tallied the game-winning goal to give the Jacks three points at home for the first time this season. Joel Johnson added two assists, including Haakenson's game-winner.
