Charlotte FC News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC - Charlotte FC today announced the Club has signed free agent forward Yordy Reyna to a contract until 2023 with an option for 2024.
Reyna will occupy an international roster slot.
The 28-year-old Peruvian international has spent the last six seasons in Major League Soccer between the Vancouver Whitecaps and D.C. United. Reyna has played 100 regular season matches where he has added 24 goals and 19 assists.
"Free agency is a great opportunity for us to continue to add players with experience in this league and adding Yordy to our attacking group is an important part of our roster build," said Sporting Director Zoran Krneta. "He's a very technical player with high energy that can play on both wings and brings a proven track record of attacking success in Major League Soccer."
Reyna has earned 28 caps for his country and featured in two World Cup qualifying cycles. He also played in the 2015 Copa America, where he started for Peru in a 2-0 victory over Paraguay in the Third Place Play-Off.
Prior to playing in Major League Soccer, Reyna came through the Alianza Lima academy where he would go on to make 22 appearances in the Peruvian top flight. His play there and with the Peruvian U-20 team caught the eye of Red Bull Salzburg who signed him in 2013. Reyna played 41 times in the Austrian Bundesliga between RB Salzburg and a loan stint at SV Grödig, totaling 14 goals and 8 assists.
Reyna also got a taste of European football in Austria, playing in the UEFA Champions League Qualifying stages and the Europa League for RB Salzburg.
The forward also spent time on-loan at RB Leipzig when the club was in the 2. Bundesliga.
