Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHECKERS DOUSE INFERNO, WIN 5-2
Columbia, SC. - The Checkers traveled to Columbia for their first road game of the season and were looking for their third win of the year.
In the first period, Checkers defenseman Ryan Constant found a loose puck just inside the Checkers zone and led a charge down the ice burying a shot behind Inferno goaltender, Jeff Jakaitis at 3:29. The first period ended with a 1-0 Checkers advantage and with netminder, Daniel Manzato making several excellent saves in his first game donning a Charlotte jersey.
Later in the second, forward Joe Barnes swooped in after a miscue between Jakaitis and his defensemen and fired the puck into the empty net giving the Checkers a two goal lead at 7:36. The Inferno would fight back and it was a shot from nearly 60 feet by defenseman Bryan Rodney that beat Manzato at 16:51.
In the final period, Checkers center, Mike Oullette and Inferno forward, Mac Faulkner would trade goals but Columbia wasn't able to mount a comeback after Ouellette scored his second of the period into an empty net at 18:45. Nathan Gillies would follow up with another empty netter 59 seconds later and the Checkers would win by a score of 5-2.

CHECKERS BOUNCE BACK, DEFEAT LYNX
Goaltender Matt Zaba Wins First Professional Game
CHARLOTTE, NC. - The Charlotte Checkers were looking to rebound after a loss on Saturday but standing in their way were the Augusta Lynx.
In the first period, the Checkers got on the board with a power play goal from Dusty Jamieson at 4:53 beating Lynx netminder, Nathan Marsters. Later, Chris Capraro scored a highlight-reel goal when he toe-dragged the puck around a Lynx defender then slipped the puck between the legs of Marsters on the ensuing breakaway giving his team a 2-0 lead at 18:44.
After going scoreless for 17:00 of the second period, Checkers forward, Ryan Murphy slammed one home as he cut inside the crease and put the puck behind Marsters for the 3-0 advantage.
The final frame would again be dominated by Charlotte and the scoring would continue. The power play went to work again on a 5 on 3 advantage when Bruce Graham fired a one-timer that beat Augusta again at 4:13. The Lynx would finally manage to get one by goaltender Matt Zaba at 7:19 when Aaron Slattengren found a loose puck in front and banged it home. But, it wasn't enough to mount a comeback and the Checkers would add one more goal from Mike Ouellette ending the night with a 5-1 victory.
