Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release
BILOXI, MS - The Mississippi Sea Wolves defeated the Pensacola Ice Pilots 4-3 in a shootout at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.
Pensacola jumped on the board first when Bryan McGregor scored his first goal of the game on the power play at 16:30 of the first period. Mississippi would answer back less than two minutes later when Matt Deschamps hit Mark Rooneem with a home-run pass; Rooneem broke in alone on Pensacola goaltender Doug Groenestege and beat him high on the stick side.
The Ice Pilots regained the lead at the 1:50 mark of the second period when Mike Tuomi picked up the rebound of a shot from Jean-Claude Sawyer and fired it past Sea Wolves goaltender Morgan Cey. Travis Lisabeth answered back, banging home the rebound of Radek Smolenak's shot from the point to tie the game at two-apiece and give the Sea Wolves their first power-play goal of the season. Mississippi would take a 3-2 lead into the locker room after rookie Ryan Menei scored his first of the season at 15:09 of the second period.
Pensacola would tie the game at three when Bryan McGregor scored his second of the game at 6:30 of the third period. The game remained tied through overtime and the first five-and-half rounds of the shootout, when Travis Lisabeth beat Groenestege through the legs in the sixth round of the shootout to give Mississippi a 4-3 win.
