Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release
WINNIPEG, MB â Runningback Charles Roberts was unstoppable against the Toronto Argonauts last Saturday, rushing 30 times for 154 yards and three touchdowns.
The CFL recognized Roberts achievements today by naming him its Player of the Week in the offensive category.
Roberts, who rushed for 119 yards in the 2nd Half and 97 yards in the 4th Quarter alone, was a key factor in Winnipeg's 44-34 win over the Boatmen. Roberts added four receptions for 45 yards to total 199 combined yards on the day.
Roberts is 1st in CFL touchdowns (12), 1st in yards from scrimmage (1,405) and 2nd in CFL rushing (1,099). He surpassed 1,000 rushing yards for the 3rd time in his career to tie two Blue Bomber club records: most 1,000-yard rushing seasons (3) and most consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons (3).
The 154-yard rushing performance was Roberts' 4th 100-yard rushing game of the season and the 17th of his CFL career when playoffs are included. The Blue Bombers are 17-0 when Roberts rushes for 100 or more yards in a game.
His three touchdowns represented his 4th multiple TD game of the year and the 6th of his career. His 30 rushing attempts are the 3rd-highest single-game total in Bomber History.
Roberts passed Canadian Football Hall of Fame member James Murphy for 3rd place in the Bomber record books for career combined yards with 10,284. Roberts, who has only played 65 CFL regular-season games, is already closing in on the CFL's Top-20 list for career combined yards.
The CFL Player of the Week honor is the 2nd of the 2004 campaign for Roberts and the 8th of his young career. He is now tied with Tyrone Jones for the 3rd-most CFL Player of the Week selections in Blue Bombers History with eight.
