Toronto Argonauts News Release

Toronto, ON – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club would like to congratulate Orlondo Steinauer for earning CFL ADT Defensive Player of the Week honours. Steinauer collected 9 defensive tackles in last week's game against Winnipeg to lead both teams, and intercepted a pass, returning it 49-yards for a touchdown.

Steinauer had an incredible game, supporting his secondary wherever possible and making intelligent reads. The 49-yard interception return touchdown thrust him into 6th place in CFL history for most interception return yards in a career (923). #21 now has three interceptions on the year.

Remarked Player of the Week Judge Bob Krouse, "Steinauer is smart and instinctive. He plays deep enough to see the field and is probably at his best in zone schemes where he is free to go to the ball. He is an aggressive tackler, who is not afraid to put his nose into the running backs.

Steinauer is a team player; he was 70 yards downfield throwing the last block to enable Arland Bruce to return the punt for a touchdown."

This is the third time Steinauer has been recognized as the Defensive Player of the Week (Week 15, 2001 & Week 16, 2003).

Toronto's next game is Saturday, September 25 in Edmonton. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 PM MT (9:30 PM ET). The game can be heard live on the New MOJO Radio AM 640 with colour commentator Peter Martin and play-by-play analyst Jaime Stein.

The Toronto Argonauts are North America's oldest professional football club, having celebrated their 130th anniversary in 2003. The Toronto Argonauts have 14 Grey Cup championships to their credit.
