Cleveland Charge News Release
The Canton Charge (28-16), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, fell to the Sioux Falls Skyforce (35-8), 113-93, in a potential Eastern Conference playoff preview at the Sanford Pentagon Friday Night. Sioux Falls' victory clinches the Central Division title and the number one overall seed in the Eastern Conference.
Less than a minute into the contest, Charge guard Chris Crawford connected with teammate John Holland, who finished an alley oop as he drew a foul. Holland hit the ensuing free throw and the Charge jumped out to a quick 3-0 advantage. After two quick Greg Whittington baskets, the host Skyforce took the lead and never looked back.
Sioux Falls would push its lead to as many as 19 in the first half before taking a 55-44 advantage into the break. Sioux Falls controlled the entire second half, leading by as many as 29 late in the fourth quarter. Despite a late push from the Charge, the Skyforce held on for a 113-93 victory over their divisional foe.
John Holland led all Charge scorers with 20 points. Nick Minnerath continued to provide a steady presence off the bench with a double-double (18 points and 10 rebounds) in 33 minutes of relief. After missing his three previous games with a sore right shoulder, Quinn Cook returned to score 15 points in 24 minutes off the bench. Milwaukee Bucks' assignee Rashad Vaughn scored four points in his Canton Charge debut.
Sioux Falls had seven players score in double figures, led by DeAndre Liggins' 26 points, 11 assists and five rebounds in 39 minutes. Whittington provided a double-double of his own with 12 points and 11 rebounds in 42 minutes. Rodey McGruder scored 16 points in a game-high 45 minutes of action. Reserve big man Keith Benson narrowly missed a double-double of his own with 18 points and eight rebounds in 25 minutes.
