Lynchburg, VA - Yu-Cheng Chang collected a career-high six RBI's and tied a career-best with four hits to lead Lynchburg to an 11-7 win over the Keys on Wednesday night at Calvin Falwell Field. Cam Kneeland brought home a season-high four and Aderlin Rodriguez and Erick Salcedo recorded multi-hit games despite the loss.
Chang, who finished 4-for-5 with two doubles and six RBI's, plated two in the first, one in the second, another in the fourth, and a pair in the fifth to eclipse his previous single-game high of five RBI's. He led the Hillcats attack early after the Keys scored four runs in the top of the first.
Salcedo kicked things off with a single to center against Mitch Brown. After Brown retired the next two, Rodriguez tripled for the second straight day. Conor Bierfeldt was hit by a pitch, and Kneeland blasted a three-run shot to left field to make it 4-0.
Franderlin Romero gave it right back to the Hillcats in the bottom half. Greg Allen walked, Tyler Krieger singled, and Chang cleared the bases with a double. Romero would issue a base on balls to Anthony Santander, as he joined Chang on the bases. Two batters later with two outs, Luigi Rodriguez singled home Chang and Santander to tie it at four.
The Keys regained the lead in the second. Jay Gonzalez singled with one away and advanced to third on a Salcedo double. A D.J. Stewart groundout scored Gonzalez a 5-4 Keys lead. Lynchburg used a Chang base hit in the second after an error on Salcedo continued the inning to keep it knotted up.
Lynchburg used the fourth inning to pull away. They sent eight batters to the box, a game-high. Paul Hendrix doubled for his second hit of three and scored on a sacrifice fly by Krieger for a 6-5 score. Chang brought home Allen, who had reached on a fielder's choice, while Santander lifted a two-run home run to right for the Hillcats second, four-run inning.
Romero (4-2) went four innings, gave up a career-high nine runs (eight earned), and 10 hits. The hosts plated two more in the fifth against Austin Urban. Urban served up a Chang double to score Allen and Krieger for an 11-5 'Cats advantage.
The orange and black scored twice in the seventh against Dominic DeMasi. Rodriguez got his second hit of the game with a single and scored on a Kneeland triple. DeMasi (1-0) was removed after the three-bagger, as he tossed 2 1/3 innings in his Advanced-A debut. Billy Strode joined with his debut and got Jonah Heim to ground out, as that scored Kneeland for an 11-7 game.
Tanner Chleborad tossed the Keys' first 1-2-3 inning of the night in the eighth, but Lynchburg earned the win in game three of the four-game series.
