Frederick Keys News Release

Frederick, Md. -For the second straight month, a member of the Frederick Keys has been named the Carolina League Player of the Month. Following an outstanding June, Conor Bierfeldt received that honor on Wednesday, as announced by Minor League Baseball. He joins former Keys pitcher, Matthew Grimes, who was named the CL's top player in May.

In 25 games, Bierfeldt, 25, batted .279 with eight home runs, 25 RBIs, six doubles and 19 runs scored. He finished with a .628 slugging percentage, .351 on-base percentage and a .978 OPS. The Connecticut native led the Carolina League in home runs, RBIs, total bases, extra-base hits (14) and slugging. His 25 RBIs were second-best at the entire Class-A level while his eight home runs were tied for second-best.

Bierfeldt closed out June in style, finishing with longballs in each of his last three games, while posting eight RBIs during that time. The highlight came on June 29, when the Keys outfielder hit a three-run walk-off homer against the Carolina Mudcats. Bierfeldt also homered on back-to-back days twice and registered eight multi-RBI games in June.

Not the only award he has garnered this week, Bierfeldt was named the Carolina League Player of the Week on Tuesday after batting .379 (11-for-29) with five homers, three doubles, 13 RBIs and eight runs scored in seven games. The five home runs were tied for the most across Minor League Baseball last week, while the 13 RBIs were tied for third-most in the MiLB.

In 41 total games with the Keys this year, Bierfeldt is batting .284 with 12 home runs, 36 RBIs, 10 doubles and 29 runs scored to go with a .352 on-base percentage, .595 slugging percentage and .946 OPS. Currently, he is third in the CL in home runs.

Joining the club on May 17 after opening the year on the disabled list, Bierfeldt is in his second season with the Keys. He split 2015 between Frederick and Low-A Delmarva and finished the year with the second-most RBIs among Orioles minor leaguers (85).

Bierfeldt was selected by the Orioles in the 29th round of the 2013 draft out of Western Connecticut State. There, he became the first player in school history to be named an All-American twice, while he also was the first individual in Little East Conference history to be named "Player of the Year" in back-to-back seasons (2012-13).

The Keys play game three of four against the Lynchburg Hillcats on Wednesday night at Calvin Falwell Field. Right-hander Franderlin Romero (4-1, 3.45) starts for the Keys and will be opposed by Hillcats righty Mitch Brown (2-6, 5.20). First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m and the broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source and frederickkeys.com.
